House Goals | Specifics
I will admit, I have a love for the self-help genre. I know that this has a bit of a negative connotation this day and age, but I don't see why. Yes, many of them are cheesy, but as a whole, I think improving oneself is a worthy goal.
As I've mentioned before, many (virtually all?) self-help books taut the importance of setting goals in order to get what you want. Jack Canfield, author of The Success Principles (a book I recommend, but with a large grain of salt) emphasizes the importance of goals saying,
"Experts on the science of success know the brain is a goal-seeking organism. Whatever goal you give to your subconscious mind, it will work night and day to achieve."
With regards to one's dream home, Canfield has some apropos advice:
"If there is a certain house you want to own, write down its specifics in vivid colorful detail - the location, landscaping, furniture, artwork, sound system, and floor plan."
Although defining a dream home in such a concrete way ignites my commitment-a-phobe synapses, I do think it's a good exercise to get this specific about what we want in our homes. I'll just have to keep reminding myself that my goals can, in fact, change.
