Gretchen Rubin | Foundation Habits
In Better Than Before, Gretchen Rubin's book on how to foster good habits, she writes about the power of what she calls Foundation habits. These are good habits that cultivate other good habits. "Self-command breeds self-command, and change fosters change," she writes. Basically these Foundation habits give more bang for your buck. They are: sleep, move, eat and drink right, and unclutter.
I find it interesting that two out of the four, sleep and unclutter, have to do directly with the home (one could make an argument about eat and drink right as well). To me, this is evidence of the effect our homes have on our lives as a whole. If you find yourself frustrated in life, cleaning our your junk drawer and getting a good night sleep might be just what you need.
