All serious daring starts from within. And as with Maslow's hierarchy of needs, other essentials must be met in order to reach a place of daring from within, or as Maslow would put it, to reach self-actualization. Straying from Maslow's pyramid a bit, certain elements need to be in place in a home in order to facilitate this kind of inner life. You must first of all like your home and enjoy being there - have it filled with objects that are meaningful and inspiring. Secondly, a clutter-free space is a must. As Feng Shui tells us, if you want something new in your life, even if it's just the freedom and time to think and relax, we must make room for it physically. If your home is serving its purpose, the pay off will be much more than the sum of its parts.
(As an aside - I do need to read some of Eudora Welty's work. It's on my list.)
