At the risk of sounding like a hermit, I fully agree with Jane on the above. To me, staying at home feels the most enjoyable when it's a respite from a too-busy life. I do find, however, that sometimes it can be difficult to change frequencies from a more social, extroverted lifestyle to a night of staying in, even if that's what I really want. I often end up cruising the internet for hours on end, which, while having its benefits, isn't helpful when I'm clicking on the same content over and over again.
Of course, even if she were a 21st century girl, I don't think cruising the internet is the type of comfort Ms. Austen described. More likely, she was referring to thoughtful, engaging activities that take place at home: reading, writing, painting, cooking, maybe even watching a good movie. Oddly, it still takes a certain level of discipline to actually make myself relax in this way. Once I do, it is always surprisingly rewarding and refreshing.
