Sofas | Embrace Color

Sofas | Embrace Color

As you might have noticed, I took a miniature break from blogging over the holidays... It was part procrastination getting the best of me and part intentional. I wanted to take a step back to think about what I wanted this blog to be about and what would possibly be of value to me and to any readers. I do think, however, that what I find interesting, readers will by proxy find interesting as well, so hopefully that will shine through on any upcoming 2018 blog posts. So after a long road trip to Amarillo with my fiance to visit his family over Christmas and slowly getting back into the swing of things at work, I'm finally ready to get back to blogging about all things design. So without further adieu, my thoughts on why might want to consider going for a colorful sofa in your home...

When it comes to sofas, the line from Almost Famous comes to mind, "Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid." Sofas are without a doubt one of the more expensive items to get for your home, and they are not something you should skimp on. A good sofa should work for you and your home for at least 5-7 years, so it's definitely a commitment. These factors combined make most people wary of choosing a colorful fabric for the upholstery. What if I get sick of it? What if we move and it won't work in the aesthetic of our future home? These are valid questions, but I'm here to tell you that A - you can just as easily get sick of your grey and/or beige sofa, but most importantly that B - many colors can serve as just as much of a neutral. Certainly not all colors, not bright pink or a loud pattern (though I do love that on a sofa as well). But if you use anything in the blue, orange, gold, or green family, it's far more versatile than you might initially suspect and can easily be worked into the interior or a future home. Also, the other thing people tend to be either afraid of or forget... reupholstering a sofa in a few years really isn't that big of a deal at the end of the day. So I say go for it! If you're someone who wants to make a colorful statement in your home,  no throw pillows or accessories are going to provide as much punch as a lovely sofa in a saturated, rich hue of your choosing.
