NCIDQ | ADA Requirements
The Americans With Disabilities Act is the most important building code pertaining to interior designers. It is important for designers to create 'barrier free' interiors in all circumstances. These requirements include:
- The minimum clear width for an accessible route is 36 inches continuously and 32" at a passage point such as a doorway.
- An accessible route may have a slope up to 1:20, or 5%. A slope greater than this is classified as a ramp.
- Thresholds at doorways cannot exceed a 1/4" vertical change in elevation.
And many, many more.
