Design | Are We Too Digital?

Design | Are We Too Digital?

This day and age, it is truly hard to imagine being a professional interior designer without the aid of the internet - no sourcing online, no emails to clients, no blogs or Pinterest for inspiration. But of course, that's what interior design (and every other profession) was for decades before the internet revolution. I've heard a few designers talk about how maybe something is lost in this new process. In one interview, Kelly Wearstler talked about how she loves Pinterest, but when people rely on it solely for their inspiration, everything starts to look the same. I also wrote an article for Food52 recently where different designers discussed their preference for a physical, pin-up inspiration board. I realize the irony of posting this on a blog, but I'm going to make an effort to be a little less digital in my design life. More in person sourcing. More magazines and books. More touching and feeling and seeing in person. It seems like something good might come of that.
