Dining Rooms | Think Outside the Box

Designer Windsor Smith is all about using homes in a way that suits our modern lifestyle, as opposed to being dictated by what the function of a room "should" or "shouldn't" be. The primary example of a room that tends to go by the wayside is the formal dining room. Many houses have one, but if you know you and your family would rarely get use out of it, it's perfectly acceptable to turn this room into something else, like an office, library, or art studio. The key is to make into something you actually would use and enjoy.

In Windsor's personal home, she has a fantastic solution for those few times a year when she actually does want a formal dining experience: bring the table into the entry way (though I couldn't find a picture of the entry being used this way). Of course, it's rare that a home could accommodate a table and dining chairs in the foyer, but if you can, then why not?
