Interior Design | What's Your Style?
As an interior designer, this is a question I get asked with some frequency, and yet, I still don't have a good answer. The best I can come up with, and what I usually end up saying, is eclectic. It is a one-word answer I can give to try to address the notion that I don't believe in adhering to a specific style. I don't just mean on differing projects, I mean within the same home and within the same room. Truly I don't. First of all, the terms we use to describe design are very generic. Your options are: traditional, transitional, modern, contemporary, or eclectic. I certainly don't believe in putting design in a box like that. Maybe a better term for me to use would be balance. Above all, I believe in a balanced aesthetic. Great interiors are about mastering the delicate tension between playful and serious, exciting and calming, public and private, as well as self-acceptance and aspiration. Below are a few interiors I find to be both eclectic and well-balanced.
