I'm Still Here | + Some Billy Baldwin Inspiration
I'm still here! When life gets crazy, I admit that this blog is one of the first things to go, and then once I've hit the pause button, it seems all the more difficult to start back up again. I wish it was the other way around. I wish that when life gets crazy, this blog could serve as my "home base," my sense of constancy in the chaos. Hopefully I can reframe for that in the future, as I'm sure this isn't the last time my schedule will get hectic. I'm also thinking this blog could benefit from some more info about me, it's creator, so I'm finally going to take the time to fill out the "About Me" page. Check back soon.
As for my recent design related musings, I just checked out Billy Baldwin Decorates from my local library after hearing multiple designers recommend it. I've barely started, but the book is amazing and surprisingly candid. He talks about his frustrations with clients, including one who asked him to complete a room divider out of a material that "no one had ever seen before." (For the record - I can 100% see this being said.) He also talks about working with the client and how the whole process is meant to be collaborative. I think if you're a designer with a grand "vision" for a space, this can be hard to remember, but it truly is so important. And, as many designers have noted before, it usually results in a better end product.
Nothing is in good taste unless it suits the way you live. – Billy Baldwin
